AFL stars including Alex Rance, Brett Deledio, Brendon Goddard, Sam Fisher, Jack Riewoldt, Sam Mitchell and Jack Riewoldt were treated to an advanced screening of Entourage last week, courtesy of Village Roadshow Films. Read Rance’s review, below.

If you’re not familiar with the Entourage franchise, this is the sort of movie you’d watch when you’re putting off an assignment or cleaning the house.

In saying that, if you’re familiar with the franchise, watch it in Gold Class. Twice.

The star power of the NFL’s elite, UFC royalty, iconic musicians, actors and models all popping in for cameos is something no other movie will be able to top – The Expendables 3 runs a close second as far as celebrity appearances go.

The parties, the houses and the lifestyle everyone dreams about made the TV series a success, and are all on show – bigger and more extravagant than ever – in the movie.

Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his entourage are kids in the Hollywood candy store.

But after every sugar high comes a crash. And here’s the sour part.

The storyline is like a maze… with all the walls pulled down. There are no twists or turns that leave you wondering what’s going to happen, and it’s hard to care too much about the characters because, regardless of what happens to them, you know they’ll still be winning.

If Entourage was a footy game, it’d be an EDFL (Essendon District Football League) Grand Final: full of flashy offence, hangers and big hits – but if you haven’t followed it previously, you mightn’t care too much about it.

Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), Chase’s manager, wins the medal for best on ground. His ruthless attitude, quick temper and almost slapstick humour will win plenty of fans. I’m pretty sure everyone has an Ari Gold in their life.

Entourage is unlikely to pick up a handful of Oscars – but it’s an entertaining and enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. It gets 3.5 lollipops out of 5.
