Dustin Martin has tightened his grip on the 2017 Shadforth Financial Group AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award, with Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield tallying just three votes in Geelong’s 65-point triumph over Carlton.
Dangerfield, who on Monday afternoon learned the Match Review Panel had offered him one match for his tackle on Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer, is now seven votes behind his main competitor for the coaches’ award.
Martin polled nine votes from the coaches for his 34 disposals against Gold Coast in Round 19.
The Richmond midfielder shared equal best on ground spoils with the Suns’ Aaron Hall to extend his lead in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award over Dangerfield.
Three players received maximum coaches’ votes for their Round 19 performances, including Hawthorn’s Ben McEvoy (16 disposals and five contested marks), Geelong’s Tom Hawkins (27 touches and six goals) and Collingwood’s Daniel Wells (34 disposals and three goals).
