Reigning premiers, Brisbane, are set to continue their dominance with five players representing the Lions in the third iteration of the AFL Players’ Association’s AFLW 22Under22 squad, proudly presented by Snaffle.

With their side currently third on the ladder and ready for a tilt at back-to-back flags, Brisbane young stars Natalie Grider, Courtney Hodder, Jade Ellenger, Jesse Wardlaw and Tahlia Hickie feature in the initial 40-person squad, which highlights the competition’s best young talent.
Alongside the Lions’ quintet in this season’s squad are the likes of Alyce Parker, Danielle Ponter, Georgia Gee, Madison Prespakis and Monique Conti, with 20 players previously named in the squad, while only five are looking to be selected in the final 22 for the second time – highlighting a new wave of players emerging throughout the competition.
To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 years or under for the entirety of the season, including the finals series, and have played at least 50 per cent of the home and away season matches (five games or more).
AFL Players’ Association Board member, Annalyse Lister, said the competition’s emerging talent continues to strengthen the AFLW.
“These players are the future of the competition and we’re yet to see what they’re fully capable of but they’re already having a huge impact. I can’t wait to see where they take the competition in the coming years,” Lister said.
“It’s great to see such depth of talent across all lines on the field, once again showing the immediate impact the players are having. I look forward to seeing them continue to grow.”
