Next Goal – for when the final siren sounds

The Next Goal program, run by the AFL Players’ Association in conjunction with AFL SportsReady, helps prepare AFL players for post-football careers. The video below tells the stories of four players who’ve ventured down very different career paths.

Collingwood premiership player Leigh Brown and former Melbourne captain Brad Green give an insight into the value of the Next Coach program – run by the Players’ Association in conjunction with AFL Sportsready and the AFL Coaches’ Association – which helped them to transition into careers as assistant coaches at Melbourne and Carlton respectively. For more information about the Next Coach program, click here.

The video also shows North Melbourne’s Liam Anthony’s journey into the corporate world – a far cry from the zoo-keeping profession chosen by former Footscray cult-hero Danny Southern, who has led a well-rounded and remarkable life since his playing days finished.

This video was played at the 2014 Next Goal breakfast, held at the MCG ahead of Round 1. To read more about the event, click here.
