The AFL Players’ Association is aware that Sports Integrity Australia (SIA) has notified Melbourne player Joel Smith of an Adverse Analytical Finding, alleging the presence of Cocaine and its metabolite Benzoylecgonine, which is a Prohibited Substance under the Australian Football Anti-Doping Code. The allegation relates to an in-competition doping control test on August 20, 2023.

SIA processes are strictly confidential under the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority Act, and it is inappropriate to speculate on details of the case or pre-empt the outcome.

The AFL Players’ Association will continue to provide support to Joel and the club throughout the process.
